Wolf Alice December 11 2017
The night was December 11th 2017. The ice and snow on the ground gave Atlanta a more Boston look for the night. The crowd was a surprisingly older group. I have never seen so many late 30s to 40s men and women at a Terminal West show that was not involving an older group. I made my way to stage left just before the main act Wolf Alice came out. Now I am not a huge Wolf Alice fan, I had heard a couple of their songs on the radio (mainly ballads), but nothing like I was about to hear tonight. The radio portrays them as an innocent band with lead singer who has a voice that can melt butter. Only one of these is true, and it is NOT the innocent part. The show had the energy of a car accident and the beauty of a painting. These two opposites combine to form a show you will never forget. The feedback from the guitars and the grimey sound made me want to bite my lip with intensity. They began the show with YUK FOO, which lyrics say, I DON'T give a SHIT set the tone for the whole night. They say fuck you we are not just some pop ballad band but we are a damn rock band and an intense one at that. The sound was unique and not one where you could say they sound like....or they remind me of.... NAH. The energy of the crowd and the show was consistent through out the hour and thirty minutes. The petal was to the metal for most of the night with the only let up on the few epic ballads. Even when the music slowed this is where the lead singer began her assault on my face with her voice. The encore performance of Blush was the prime example of the beauty that is Wolf Alice. Generally, the live version and the album have some differences. On December 11th the live version capture and enhanced the songs I heard on the record. As the show close, the only thing I wanted was to re-live it over again.
